Stephany and Tim's wedding page!

Pullman

Pullman is a fun little university town (it hosts Washington State University) just on the border between Idaho and Washington. Nearby is Moscow Idaho, another university town where U of I lives. It is surrounded by the rolling hills of what is called The Palouse, where an insane amount of wheat and lentils are grown. The area is supposedly the lentil capital of the world, a fact which I am uncertain of how to check.

Why Pullman?

Because a large portion of Tim's family lives there. His grandfather, his father, several aunts and an uncle... And other members are not so far away, as well as several good friends who are going to school at U of I. Stephany's parents live nearby as well, in north Idaho, as do many people she knows from her childhood. We figure that it would be easier for our bay area friends to fly up there than for our ID/WA people to fly down and stay in the expensive hotels and whatnot here in the bay area.

How do I get there?

  • You can drive there... If you are near enough to do so, any map of the area will show you the way to Pullman. It's in eastern Washington, about 1/4 of the way up from the southern border. Here are Driving Directions to 201 Harms Rd
    Pullman, WA 99163-8849
, where the wedding will be held.
If you do come via car, you might consider carpooling. You can contact us and we can try to hook you up with others if you do this.
  • You can fly there... The nearest airport is the Pullman/Moscow regional airport (PUW), and is serviced by a couple of Alaska Airline flights a day. It's fairly small planes that come in there (little dual-engine turboprops), and if there's a football game or some sort of parent's day of some sort, it can be crowded, so get tickets early if you can. There are only one or two taxis in the area, so you might either let us know you need a pickup at the airport, or rent a car. They have a few there, I think.
There's also Spokane airport (GEG), which is about an hour and a half drive away. They have direct flights from SF and other major hubs via a couple of carriers, and use normal planes. You will need to either rent a car, or carpool with some other folks. Again, email us, and we can keep track or build a web page if there's enough demand...
  • You can walk or bike there. I wouldn't recommend this. Pullman is rather far from many other places.

Where can I stay?

Well, there are a remarkable amount of hotels in the area, probably to handle the influx of parents and whatever for the universities around there. However, they do fill up if there is some sort of event. Kathy has reserved some for our use. Here's what she had to say:

I reserved 25 rooms at the Quality Inn in Pullman. Do any of your friends smoke? If not I should probably change it. She gave me 4 smoking rooms. Also if 20 rooms are used they'll throw in a large suite free (jacuzzi, king bed, couch, table, bar - apparently quite large so one could actually entertain there if desired). Don't know if you want to bunk in where all your friends are but you also would have that option. Rates were quite reasonable and she gave a 20% discount on all the rooms. If you want to include this on your invitation: Quality Inn - Paradise Creek, l400 SE Bishop Blvd. Reservations: 800-669-32l2, Burge/Spencer Wedding, by August 27. The contact person is "Kathy Spencer", if asked.

If that won't work for you, there are other places to stay to be found on http://www.pullman.com/'s website under Business: Lodging. There are also places to stay in Moscow, ID, which is just 7-10 miles away or so. Or, contact us, and we might be able to find a spare couch or spot of lawn to camp on.

How do I get to 201 Harm's road?

All right, I'll try to describe how to get there, in case the Driving Directions are too confusing. This is Tim's Uncle Dave and Aunt Kathy's house, so it doesn't look like an event center or anything. We should be set up in front of the house in clear view, though, so if you get anywhere near it, you should be able to spot the activity, and maybe we'll have some flowers or balloons on the mailbox or something.

From the Airport, you turn left upon the only road that goes by the airport. Keep going on that road (it curves a bit through the hills and fields) until you come to a large road. It's essentially a dead-end, though I believe if you were to go straight, you might be able to cross over and go into a gravel pit or driveway for a wheat silo or something. The road is the moscow-pullman highway, though I dunno what it's called right there, as it changes it's name a lot. Turn right upon that road and go towards Pullman. You will go past the WSU campus, where they have a big sign and some big brick dorms and whatnot. Keep going across a big bridge kind of thing that takes you into downtown Pullman. You will curve about a bit, but once you get downtown, you will come to a major intersection with Grand Avenue. If you go straight, you will go up a hill, and you don't want to do that. Instead, turn left on Grand, and drive down that road for a while. You will drive out of town and past a mall on your left with McDonalds in it. You will curve right, and fairly soon, you will see a gravel road going off at a very shallow angle from your highway travel to the right. To your left, I believe there is a Ford dealership and a big warehouse type building. Turn on that gravel road and continue down it to the end, where Dave & Kath's house is! It is a red brick two-story house with a lot of trees and a barn or two up on a little hill at the end of the gravel road.
If you notice that there is a field to your right rather than houses with yards, you probably have gone too far, though there may still be hope! There is another gravel road which you can turn right onto which also ends at their house fairly shortly after the first turnoff. If you go go too far, you will come to an intersection with a real road that goes off to the right. I think that it's a state highway of some sort. Not sure. But you've gone too far. Turn around and go back and try again!
