idea

so here's the idea: a lite, nimble distro that can be easily installed to various mediums, easily themeable, remixable etc.. wtih different pre-made configurations to add on

how: a minimalist debian squeeze live system which is mostly cli apps and scripts to install to harddrive, to usb (live and persistent) or remaster livecd.

the live image is very small ( i already have it ready.. 200MB, boots with 20mb ram)

in the menu are options to install reconfigured desktops (i.e. openbox 'a la #!', icewm, lxde, squeezebang, etc..) simply click which one you want and the scirpt will download/install the necesary files and voila!

users can configure a custom desktop and then submit their creation to be added to the list of possible installations.. ( remixable like puppy or other repoductive distro ..e.xcept this way we dont' have tons of iso foating around.. jsut 1 iso which can be installed to a ton of different configurations.

what i will do:

this is a project that i AM doing to do for my own uses no matter what.. i perform so many installs for friends/family that this will save me time and be a great project anyway.. how far it advances depends on who all else gets interested... i'm very willing for this to be a community effort should there turn out to be others otu there who are tired of having to choose a different distro every time they want a different feature.. lets make this "the way we want it"

i have the base system ready (except that its at home and i'm out of town for a couple weeks.)

i will try to take care of the HD-install and USB-install scripts (though i'm slow do if anyone knows how and wants to help that'd be welcome)

i am moving my squeezebang project to be a desktop upgrade for this.
